Date Joined ABWA: 5/11/2005 Members Sponsored: 6
ABWA Offices Held: VP Finance; President
Contributions to SVEN: In addition to serving as an officer since the network was established, Betsy has been very involved in helping make meetings more interactive and purposeful by developing “SVEN Rocks” – a process in which members recognize other members for their help and achievement.
She organized and chaired a panel program on financial fitness for a SVEN meeting which was highly successful; and she co-ordinated (with Paradise Chapter) a “makeup drive” for victims of the California wild fires. She has been a force in increasing membership and within only 1 1/2 years has already sponsored 6 new members.
Involvement in ABWA activities/local events/other chapters/conferences: In addition to SVEN, Betsy is a member of the Scottsdale Express Network and the Arrowhead Chapter of ABWA and has done projects for those groups. For example, she created all the table arrangements for the Arrowhead Chapter’s Arrow Award banquet. Betsy was a team leader for Arizona Roundup serving on the Registration Committee and the Planning Committee for “goodie bags”. She has also attended the Phoenix area ABWA Showcase weekend and participated in ABWA Phoenix Metropolitan Council meetings.
Last year, Betsy actively participated in the District VI Spring Conference in Albuquerque where she represented SVEN and networked with other members, attended workshops and seminars, and increased her knowledge of ABWA as well as honed her business skills.
Career high lights/community activities: Betsy recently retired as a Prudential Insurance agent and worked in the insurance/financial industry for 25 years. Prior to that career, she was an office designer with Steel Case Furniture. She graduated from Mesa College School of Design in San Diego and has started her own business “Artful Design”.
Betsy is a breast cancer survivor and talks to victims, distributing breast cancer information to them and assisting them with insurance information and claims. She spends a lot of her free time in individual person-to-person cancer victim support as well as working to inform the general public about the disease whenever she has an opportunity.
Annually Betsy and her husband, John, hold a huge party at their home during the Christmas holiday season to collect toys for distribution during the season to children of the “working class poor” – those who work and are able to barely provide food and housing for their children..but have no funds for toys or special items.
They also support Boxer (dog) Rescue efforts and live with a “rescued boxer” – Roxie. Betsy has two step-daughters, and three grandchildren.
Our Congratulations to Betsy!!
